Hi, I’m James, a composer, producer, and educator based in New York City, and a Latin Grammy-nominated, multi-award-winning artist. I’m interested in bridging creative intuition with solid technique, helping musicians develop their own voice with clarity and intention. Starting in May, I’m opening my studio to composers, producers, and songwriters.

After teaching in various university formats, I’ve found that semi-private groups offer the most effective balance: focused, detail-oriented work with real individual attention, while remaining accessible.

I currently offer three courses, and each one includes:

4 weekly classes, 2 hours per class
In-person, semi-private format (max. 4 participants)
Schedule coordinated among participants

WRITING FOR STRINGS

We begin with the core principles of string writing, including bow techniques and instrumental possibilities. Step by step, we expand into writing for string quartet and larger ensembles, focusing on practical, usable techniques across styles. The seminar also explores extended and experimental approaches used in contemporary and cinematic writing.
